Overview of the Sierra
Ecuadorian Andean Region, covering an area of 64 201 km2, common known as the Sierra, is the part of the Andes, across the country from north to south, consisting of three branches: West, Central and Eastern
Politically the region is divided into ten provinces, from north to south are: Carchi, Imbabura, Pichincha, Cotopaxi, Tungurahua, Bolivar, Chimborazo, Canar, Azuay and Loja.

It is the second most populated region with 5 595440 inhabitants, representing 44.32% of the population. With the province of Pichincha 2 466245 inhabitants, is the second most populous after Guayas, Azuay and fourth in population with 626,857 inhabitants.

In the Sierra winter goes from October to May, with average annual temperature of 12 to 18 degrees centigrade, but the daily variation can be extreme with very hot days and very cold nights. The rest is summer, and we can say that the climate is spring. Much of its territory is covered by moorland vegetation and dry, 3500 and 4500 m, the stand is an ideal habitat for condors, deer, llamas, vicuna, hummingbirds and flowers.

For tourism are great opportunities across the region we can find a vast infrastructure of hotels and places of tourist attraction, it can be done from a horse to ride in the farms now converted into hostels and hotels, water sports in the gaps as San Pablo in Imbabura, a journey through the path to climb the volcanoes and some of them are the Chimborazo and Cotopaxi, the tallest and most active volcanoes in the world, respectively
